How to set up WordPress? Many small business owners that are new to WordPress find the set up to be the hardest part. You’ve heard that WP can be a great way to create your own small business website so you open up Google and do a search for “WordPress” and the results quickly offer up two options.
WordPress.com and WordPress.org
Which site do you need to get started building your company’s website? The short answer is you need the dot org version. The longer answer is that it will most likely be easier for you to get going with WP directly through your web hosting account.
But before we get into that I wanted to share this brief video that explains the difference of WordPress.com and WordPress.org. It clearly breaks down why the dot com version will not work for your business. Understanding this is the first step to setting up WP.
This post and this video is the first in a series on “How to Set Up WordPress.” Here is a break down of what this mini course of WP tutorials covers:
- WordPress.com vs WordPress.org – “Which is right for your business.”
- Domain Names – “Why you need one and how to get one.”
- Web Hosting – “What it is and where to get it.”
- How to Install WP – “Using one click install to get your site launched fast.”
- How to Design a WP Site- “Using WP Themes to instantly change the look of your website.”
- How to Add Features & Functions – “Using WP Plugins to quickly boost your site’s power.”
I find that most folks struggle with the set up of WP than any other time. Once your site is up and running you’ll quickly learn your way around it and you’ll be a WP Expert in no time!
